Tailoring the care to your needs
The care we offer is individually tailored to you, and we try to find out your likes, dislikes, and your needs, in the first few days of arrival.
To make sure that we have got it right, we sit down with you after the first two to three weeks to review how you are settling in, and what we can improve upon from your point of view. This is called person centred care, with you as the person at the centre. We listen and learn from you, as to how you want to live your life, and how we can help you. There may be times that we get it wrong, and we are open to suggestions and there is a formal complaints procedure (given to all residents on arrival).
Your preferences, and your needs, may change over time and you are encouraged to ask us to change your care plan when this happens, as well as at more formal times when we routinely review the care plan (which takes place at the end of each month with your keyworker). Some of the areas of your life you may wish us to consider are;
- A safe and happy environment- your room/ your day space/your eating area
- The level of care- help with washing and dressing/bathing/hair/nails
- A healthy lifestyle- input from GP/community nurses/physiotherapists/dentists
- Involvement with your friends and families
- Social interaction with other residents and staff
- Activities and interests that you find meaningful
- Diet and nutrition- and enjoyment of food and drink
There may be other areas of interest which are not covered in the above list, which you would like us to know about. As you settle into your new life these are added to your care plan, to ensure that your goals and wishes are met and that we are able to continue to meet your needs.
Continuity of Care
Continuity of Care is usually an area of concern to people when they first arrive, and as they make this their home. We will be in the best position to offer this continuity of care through regular care planning with you, and listening to your views on how you wish to be cared for at the end of your life, and if this involves spending your last days in our care rather than having to move to hospital.
Day Care and Extra Services
We offer day care to people in the community. This is tailor made to suit the person and is integrated with our residential services and activities. Day care can be a useful service to people who are feeling isolated at home and want to have some company during the week.
Computer Lounge
Search engines, e-mail, online shopping and Skype are taken for granted by most people these days and are designed to make life easier. But for many elderly people Google is gobbledegook and Skype is pie in the sky. The Aylsham Manor Care Home has developed a programme to help Norfolk’s pensioners become slick silver surfers and use computers with confidence.
Whether they simply want to use the internet to research the cheapest place to buy fuel, develop a spreadsheet of their household expenses or keep in touch with family in far-flung parts of the world, Tea, Cakes and Computers at The Aylsham Manor will equip them with the skills they need to be safe and confident. The Aylsham Manor has two new computers which are specially designed with touch screens and large keyboards, to enable people with age related difficulties to gain skills and confidence to use the internet. Tuition sessions will help those who have never used a computer to find out how easy it can be. The sessions will be provided by Carl Denis who has developed the tutorials based on the Simply Unite system.
Denise Denis, who runs the award winning Aylsham Manor Care Home comments: “The internet can offer really exciting possibilities for people, but it also has more practical uses that could really benefit older people, such as buying groceries online for those with compromised mobility. We want to give pensioners the opportunity to use computers safely and give them access to a computer for free on a regular basis so that they can enjoy the benefits that most of us take for granted.”
The Aylsham Manor Care Homes opens its doors for two mornings and two afternoons each week. Pensioners can come along and use The Aylsham Manor’s computers for £2 per session and lessons are on offer for a fee of £10 so that people can improve their skills in a secure environment.
Sessions take place at The Aylsham Manor Care Home on:
Monday and Tuesday between 10am – 12noon
Tuesday and Thursday between 2:30pm – 4:30pm
